Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

is widely considered one of the greatest composers in history. At the same time, he was a very unconventional man, leading a fast and short life. A “pop star” of his time, somehow. Back in the 1980s, Austrian pop artist Falco dedicated his number-one hit song “Rock me Amadeus” to the eccentric cult composer Mozart. Join us and get an idea of what Mozart was really like.

Schoenbrunn Palace was a very special place for whiz kid and eccentric composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In 1762, the Mozart children´s first concert tours took them to Vienna, where the 6-year old Mozart and his elder sister played on the clavichord in the Hall of Mirrors in Schoenbrunn Palace for Empress Maria Theresa and her family. Mozart´s legendary first performance in  Vienna was the talk of the town and laid the foundations for his comet-like rise and the absolute cult status he attained as a composer. A star was born. Years later, it was Schoenbrunn again – the Orangery this time (where many of Mozart´s works were premiered) – where Mozart and his constant adversary Antonio Salieri competed in a legendary musical contest, remarkably staged by Milos Forman in his movie “Amadeus”.

Follow the footsteps of whiz kid and cult celebrity Mozart in the place where his fast career as composer and musician started: In Schoenbrunn Palace – world-famous Baroque gem of architecture and UNESCO world cultural heritage site – which Empress Maria Theresa once made the Habsburg family´s imperial summer residence. Take a tour through the magnificent state and private rooms of Schoenbrunn Palace and see how the imperial court used to live, feel, think and act.

Individual guests will take this tour on their own with an audio guide during the opening hours of Schoenbrunn Palace. Groups of 10 or more will take the palace tour with their individual guide – exclusively and after the official opening hours of Schoenbrunn Palace.

This is your chance to learn more about Mozart´s private tastes. After the palace tour, you will enjoy some of Mozart´s favourite dishes in the Café-Restaurant Residenz. All dishes of our Mozart dinner were typical of Mozart´s time and will take you back to 18th century.

The Concert

Has Mozart fever hit you? Here is more to come! Let Mozart take you back to the old times. Immerse in a Vienna of times long past with overtures, arias and duets from Mozart´s operas like “Le Nozze di Figaro” (The Marriage of Figaro), “Die Zauberfloete” (The Magic Flute), and “Don Giovanni”, with world-famous melodies by Johann Strauss, opera singers and ballet dancers in authentic costumes. Come and feel the spirit of Mozart in the Orangery, where Mozart often used to perform concerts and where many of his works were premiered. This is your chance to enjoy brilliant tunes just like the imperial court once used to do in Mozart´s times.
